Metallurgical Product Description
Ferrovanadium is a universal hardener, strengthened, and anti-corrosive additive for steels like high-strength low-alloy steel, tool steels, as well as other ferrous-based products.
Vanadium content in ferrovanadium ranges from 35% to 85%. In addition to iron and vanadium, small amounts of silicon, aluminum, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, arsenic, copper, and manganese are found in ferrovanadium. Impurities can make up to 11% of the weight of the alloy. Concentrations of these impurities determine the grade of ferrovanadium.

Distinguished by reduction equipment: electric furnace method smelted in an electric furnace (including carbothermal method, electrosilicothermal method, and electric thermite method). The method that does not use an electric furnace for heating and only relies on its reaction to release heat is called the thermite method (i.e., the outside-furnace method).

Eighty-five percent of all vanadium extracted from the Earth is used to create alloys such as ferrovanadium. One of the most common ways is aluminum reduction.
Aluminum is used as the reducing agent, and the bottom ignition method is used for smelting in a furnace barrel lined with an alkaline furnace. First, put a small part of the mixed charge into the reactor and ignite it. After the reaction starts, add the remaining materials one after another. It is usually used to smelt high-vanadium iron (containing 60-80% vanadium). The recovery rate is slightly lower than that of the silicon thermal method, about 90-95%.
