What Is Ferro Vanadium Used For?

Ferrovanadium (ferrovanadium alloy) is mainly used for:

Steel strengthener:
As a steelmaking additive (accounting for 85%↑ of vanadium consumption), it improves the strength, toughness, wear resistance and heat resistance of steel;
Applied to high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA), used in oil pipelines, bridges, building structures, etc.
Nonferrous alloy manufacturing:
Produces titanium-based ferrovanadium alloys (such as Ti-6Al-4V) for high-temperature scenes such as aircraft engines and rocket components.
Special materials field:
Manufacturing permanent magnet materials, nuclear reactor protection materials and superconducting materials.

Vanadium ferrovanadium categories (vanadium content)

Vanadium ferrovanadium is divided into three categories according to the vanadium content. The mainstream vanadium content is:

High vanadium content: containing vanadium ‌80%‌ (such as FeV80), used for high-end alloy steel and aerospace materials;

Medium vanadium content: containing vanadium ‌60%‌ (FeV60), a general industrial alloy additive;

Low vanadium content: containing vanadium ‌40%‌ (FeV40), used for ordinary construction steel.

Note: The product grade is marked with "FeV+vanadium percentage" (such as FeV80).

"Ferrovanadium" actually refers to vanadium-titanium magnetite (mainly vanadium-containing minerals), with the following characteristics:

Composition: Paragenetic ore contains iron (Fe), vanadium (V), and titanium (Ti), and vanadium is isomorphously present in titanomagnetite;
Resource distribution: 98% of the world's vanadium resources come from here, and China's Panxi region has rich reserves (such as the Panzhihua deposit);
Smelting value: While extracting vanadium, iron, titanium, cobalt and other elements can be recovered, with a high comprehensive utilization rate.

Composition of ferrovanadium‌
Ferrovanadium is an intermediate alloy of vanadium and iron, and its main components include:

Standardization requirements: The total content of iron + vanadium is ≥95%, and the total amount of impurities is ≤5%.
