The influence of impurities in lime:
The impurities in lime mainly include magnesium oxide, silicon oxide, iron oxide, aluminum oxide, etc.
When the charge reacts in the electric furnace to generate calcium carbide, various impurities also react. These reactions not only consume electricity and carbon materials, but also affect the operation and damage the furnace bottom. In particular, magnesium oxide is quickly reduced to metallic magnesium in the molten zone, making the molten zone an intense high-temperature reduction zone. When magnesium vapor escapes from this hot area in large quantities, part of the magnesium reacts with carbon monoxide immediately to generate magnesium oxide, which releases strong heat to form high temperature, and the local hard shell is destroyed, causing the liquid calcium carbide with impurities to erode the furnace bottom.
